2020 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995). The sixty-fourth session of the Commission on the Status of Women is planned to take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9 to 20 March 2020. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and civil society organizations will be present at the session. Representatives of the GPR2C’s Gender Working Group will be attending the event and taking part in activities.
The main focus of the session will be on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The review will include an assessment of current challenges that affect the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and its contribution towards the full realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In preparation for the event, state and regional reviews are being prepared in order to assess the progress made in relation to the commitments stated 25 years ago.
