The Global Platform for the Right to the City (GPR2C) is participating in the 6th Congress of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders will take place on 11-15 November 2019 in Durban, South Africa!
The World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, convened by UCLG, is the largest gathering of mayors, presidents of associations, councillors, and local and regional practitioners from around the world.
GPR2C at the UCLG World Summit
This year the GPR2C will be focussing on asseritng that fundamnetal to implementing the SDG´s in their totality requires the application of the Right to the City framework, a powerful tool that cuts across the different yet interconnected goals, while ensuring that implementation leads sustainable system change without replicating the status quo; a Human Rights Habitat with a Right to the City for All is the only way forwards for the just and equitable cities we are all entitled to!
GPR2C, in conjunction with UCLG, will present a policy paper that will be a central contribution to the debates in Durban. Through this, as well as the numerous activities organised by GPR2C and its members, provides an opportunity to advocate for the implementation of the Right to the City at the local and regional levels, working with local and regional governments to develop specific policies and programs built around the eight components of the Right to the City.
